The World Leader In Battery
Maintenance Technology

Marc Sauve, Parts Manager for the Spokane complex of Western Power and Equipment, stands by one of the many types of Case equipment they sell. Solargizer (in his hand) will become an integral part of their PowerPlus service maintenance program.
Western Power Eyes New Markets With PulseTech
Western Power and Equipment is the largest independent dealer of Case construction equipment in the U.S. In 1996 it broke the $100 million mark in sales and plans to increase sales even more this year. The company’s strategy for growth includes marketing new and innovative parts and equipment to their customers. This is why they recently added Solargizer and other PulseTech products to their product line.

"Solargizer and the other systems PulseTech offers are some of the most innovative products in the marketplace today." states Gary Frank, Vice President of Product Support for Western Power. "The fact that Solargizer eliminates sulfation, the main cause of battery problems and failure, makes this a product that everyone in our industry needs. After all, when literally millions of dollars are spent on a single construction project, the last thing you want to happen is run over budget because your batteries are dead. "

Gary says response to Solargizer has already been incredible. He and others at Western Power feel that PulseTech products are going to have a tremendous impact on their overall sales. The company sells, leases and services Case and other equipment. Based in Vancouver, Washington, it currently has 22 locations throughout Washington, Alaska, Oregon, California and northern Nevada.

According to Marc Sauve, Western Power’s Parts Manager for the Spokane complex, this is the area to be in for construction growth because it is literally exploding. "The western U.S. is outpacing the rest of the United States in population growth and job formation at a rate of almost double the national average," explains Marc. "Because of an influx of new home building, commercial and industrial construction and other projects construction activity is at an all time high.

The equipment companies that benefit the most from this potential business are the ones that offer more than just equipment. They need to offer personalized service and quality parts, as well." Service and parts have always been important components of the company’s overall business. In fact, Western Power customers depend on the company when service is needed on their equipment, whether it requires immediate repair at the job site or regular maintenance at one of the company’s locations.

"We recently initiated a new service maintenance plan called the PowerPlus Program" says Marc, "It’s designed to reduce equipment owner’s maintenance costs through scheduled maintenance and inspection. Battery maintenance is a vital part of the program. After all, if the battery dies, so does the equipment." Under this program, Western Power’s technicians perform a 101-point inspection on a regular scheduled basis to assess the equipment’s operating condition. Any problems identified are corrected before more serious damage occurs, resulting in less extensive repairs and less down time for the equipment.

"As part of the program, we suggest the owner install Solargizer on their batteries," adds Marc. "Their batteries will perform at peak efficiency all the time, so maintenance and downtime are minimized. This is especially important in areas of excessive heat and cold since severe changes in weather will increase sulfation and battery damage." Marc says an integral part of their service is being there when needed. So Western Power has Solargizers on their own service trucks to make sure they start every time. "The PowerPlus Program is a part of our striving to forge closer partnerships with our customers," says Marc.

Another growing area of business for the company is rental equipment. The construction industry is depending more and more on rentals to meet its equipment needs, so what becomes a vital factor is that the equipment works all the time. Because of this, Western Power is looking at installing Solargizers on the lease equipment. Western Power will continue to pursue its growth of expanding market area and market share. Not just in construction, but in other markets as well.

One example is a new school bus program they recently initiated. "School buses sit for more time than they are driven," says Marc." And since inactive batteries sulfate faster, Solargizer is perfect for them. This product will keep the batteries in peak condition even while sitting unused so they will start every time. This fact has helped us get our foot in the door of many of the school districts." In just the short time the company has been selling Pulsetech products, sales response has been incredible. Marc predicts this will continue to grow every month, because as equipment demand gets stronger, so will the need for parts and service -and the need for Solargizer and other PulseTech battery maintenance systems.
