July 30, 2004

Amsoil has designed a beautiful solution to the dreaded 'dry start'. Engines that sit for more than a couple of weeks will go through much accelerated wear at the moment of start up until oil is pumped through out the engine. This is especially true for petroleum oil users. Up until now we've just had to grit our teeth and turn the key! Now we have a solution that solves this problem!

Febuary 6, 2004

Amsoil has commissioned a lab test by a well known independent laboratory to test 10 competing 10w-30 petroleum and synthetic motor oils in addition to it's own 10w-30 using API testing protocols. What I find absolutely fascinating is the fact that several synthetic motor oil offerings are being handily out-performed by the same brands PETROLEUM motor oil!

This totally reinforces what I've always said,

"JUST BECAUSE IT'S SYNTHETIC DOESN"T MEAN IT'S ANY GOOD".

January 7, 2004
When you pay a premium price for premium performance, you expect to get what you pay for. Trouble is in many cases you are paying a premium price but not getting a premium product!

Why? I have become aware of what I can only describe as a 'kicked over can of worms' of escaping information showing a concerted effort by the North American oil industry to;

1) Substitute lower performing product into their 'top tier' offerings without your knowledge and without a price drop of what now is not the best a company can make but is something that increases their profits at your expense.

2) Purposefully quell knowledge that North American motor oil drain intervals are now beyond short, they are "unethically" short. Again, lining their pockets at your's and the environment's expense.

Addressing the ethical aspects of keeping drain intervals shortened, "Lubes' n' Greases" Automotive Editor David McFall declares the current stance of the oil industry “comes at a high environmental price.” December 2003 column

October 28, 2003
Check out the specs on the next bottle of synthetic gear oil you get your hands on. Lists API GL5 approval and that's it, right? What about the "real" specs? I mean specifications that separate "good enough" with something of truly stellar performance. Does the bottle mention an Eaton spec? Remember GL5 is the starting point, as in the minimum current spec for gear lube certification in North America.

We'll have more to say on "competing" gear lube products as more and more so called synthetics sound good but examination of the specs shows many don't go beyond "good enough"!

Seems the current crop of so called "synthetic" ATF falls into the same category of underwhelming specification capabilities as well, so check around and compare.
