How Good are other Brands of Synthetic Oils?
A snowmobile drag racer's experiences using Amsoil Series 2000 2-Stroke oil.

Products That Give You the Quality-First Edge

AMSOIL 0W-30 is Ohio State University Formula SAE Racing Team's oil.
Feb 2002

Looking for the best oil available, this team asked if they could test Amsoil 0W-30 against their then top choice of oil, Mobil 1. The rest is history! The team's website shows what these guys and gals do. What do they think about Amsoil's 0W-30 and us? Have a look.

AMSOIL 20W-50 solves Sludge Problem in Porsches
Veteran mechanic Karl Ohliger of Fort Meyers, Florida discovered some serious sludge problems in air-cooled, high performance Porsches using premium petroleum motor oils. He cleaned the engines with AMSOIL Engine Flush and replaced the old motor oil with AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Racing Oil. The use of AMSOIL Engine Flush and AMSOIL 20W-50 ended the sludging problem.
Now whenever engine service is needed, Karl recommends AMSOIL to his customers.

Cycle Whine Suppressed with AMSOIL 10W-40
Bill Bish of Bellingham, Washington hated the characteristic whining noise of his 1981 Honda GL 1100 interstate motorcycle. Having had enough, Bill added AMSOIL 10W-40 when the bike had 52,000 miles. About 2,000 miles later, the whine was suppressed. "Apparently, the 1981 and 1982 Honda GL Models have a natural whine originating from the transmission," Bill recalled. "Well, I don’t have to live with the whine anymore. I’m certain AMSOIL did the job because I had changed nothing else."
Bill is also impressed with the low oil consumption and increased fuel mileage that he now gets. "During a recent 1,400 mile trip, 1 only had to add about one-half quart of AMSOIL," said Bill. "Also, my gas mileage rose by about four miles per gallon."

Groundskeeper Keeps Golf Course in Shape with AMSOIL
Dennis Daugherty, grounds-keeper for a golf course in Chester, Virginia, has been using AMSOIL products in all the course maintenance equipment for five years. What does he think of AMSOIL? "I wouldn’t go back to petroleum lubricants if I were given the oil and engines for free," declared Dennis.

Dennis is particularly pleased with the performance of AMSOIL 10W-30 on his greens mower. An engine on a greens mower would normally last about eight months if a petroleum oil were used. With AMSOIL 10W-30, however, the 3.5 hp Briggs & Stratton engine powering the greens mower is still running after five years. Dennis estimated that he would have had to replace eight engines in that same five-year period had he used petroleum oil.

TEXAS TURBO Dragster Sets Records with AMSOIL
Gene Deputy, President of TEXAS TURBO ENGINEERING, Inc. designs and builds racing engines. He is also an excellent drag racer. For the extra edge he needs to win, Gene uses AMSOIL Lubricants in all his race cars.
"I have a 1989 Mustang GT with a TEXAS TURBO prepared turbocharged 5 Liter engine. The car has set records all over the United States at various drag strips, and it runs a 1/4-mile time consistently around 10.43 seconds at 130 mph through the muffler," said Gene.
Gene added, "I use AMSOIL in both the rear end and the engine due to its lubricating properties that reduce friction, which translates into horsepower. The other reason I use AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants is because of its higher resistance to ‘coking.’ I have to make hard runs, where the turbine wheel approaches around 1700ºF at 15 psi of boost. I don’t have to leave the car running as long to circulate oil to cool the shaft since the coking point is higher. This means the engine has a longer cool down period for the next run."
The Mustang GT is also used for street driving, as the power seats, door locks, electric windows, and stereo system are still intact. A real crowd pleaser, Gene’s car has been in several magazines, including Hot Rod. However, to keep the Mustang GT running at its competitive peak, Gene relies on AMSOIL Lubricants.

AMSOIL Keeps Floridian in Winner's Circle
Swamp Buggy Racing started in the Southeastern United States in the 1950s. The track is approximately one mile in length and filled with water. The track, appropriately called "Mile-O-Mud," has various turns and two deep holes, including the dreaded six-foot deep "Sippy Hole." Many competitors have a difficult time just finishing the course, so winning isn't as important.
One racer who has been competing and winning for over twenty years is Lonnie Chesser of Florida. He and his brother Bill, Lonnie’s mechanic, switched from Valvoline Racing Oil to AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Racing Oil. After an engine teardown, the brothers were convinced they had made the right choice.
Bill said, "We tore the engine down after five hard runs and couldn't believe what we saw. The bearings looked like they had been polished. There was virtually no wear in the engine. Even the magnetic drain plug didn't have a speck of metal on it!"
Lonnie added, "This type of racing is more severe on an engine than quarter-mile drag racing. When I cross the "Sippy Hole" at 100 mph, the rear wheels just paddle and the engine spins up to 9,000 rpms. It’s like throwing the stick into neutral and holding the pedal to the floor!"
Will Lonnie and Bill consider a switch back to Valvoline? "From now on, we won't put anything else in the engine but AMSOIL," said Lonnie.

Prototype of Perkins M-2 Uses AMSOIL
Michael Perkins, founder of Perkins Engineering, Inc., of Austin, Texas, has recently finished the prototype of the Perkins M-2 or "Texas Exotic" sports car. The prototype is lubricated entirely with AMSOIL Lubricants.
The Perkins M-2 weighs approximately 2,200 lbs. and has a five-speed transmission. It has a SHO V-6 engine, with four cams, 24 valves, and either 245 or 300 horsepower, depending on the configuration. To keep this expensive equipment in top running condition, Michael decided that the Perkins M-2 will include AMSOIL Lubricants.
Michael explained, "No question in the minds of people in the know that synthetic lubricants are today’s answer to improved drive train protection, improved performance, reduced maintenance, and less pollution. AMSOIL is an obvious leader in the industry."
The Perkins M-2, with a proposed retail price of $125,000, is an exotic car designed for successful people who, generally, are over 6 feet tall. Michael said he wants his car to appeal to tall sports stars such as pro basketball players, people who have the money to invest in an expensive sports car but can't fit comfortably in them.
"All those guys are driving around torturing themselves just to look cool," said Michael. Michael Perkins is living his dream by designing and building the Perkins M-2, and AMSOIL is grateful in helping him make his dream into a reality.
"Perkins Engineering is proud to offer the M-2 to America and also proud to include AMSOIL advanced product technology as part of this automobile’s original equipment," Perkins said.
