The Aerosol (Spray) can is under attack

Postby ogrady » 2013 Tue Sep 17, 10:58 am

The use of aerosol spray products in the USA is under attack, expect many of the spray products we use now to be unavailable or completely different within 3 years. Already we've seen the Canadian regulations on aerosol cans directly cause Amsoil to drop marketing Amsoil spray can products in Canada. This happened September, 2013. Here's what I've learned.

VOC's and flame front.
Directly from Wikipedia: Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are organic chemicals that have a high vapor pressure at ordinary, room-temperature conditions. Their high vapor pressure results from a low boiling point, which causes large numbers of molecules to evaporate or sublimate from the liquid or solid form of the compound and enter the surrounding air.

Some VOC's are highly toxic, some VOC's are not, perfume is an example of pleasant VOC's. The not so healthy VOC's used in spray can products are being legislated out of use. This makes some products really hard to manufacture, and others impossible to make.

Flame front:
Legislators must think we'll use a spray can as a flame thrower. So, if we hold a lighter in front of a can of spray paint and press the nozzle, how far will the flame blow forward? Yes... there's now a regulation for this and just one more reason we'll soon see the products we love to use, no longer available.
