Maintaining stored or infrequently used vehicles or equipment is time consuming and expensive. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airports Frank Hogan, Automotive Maintenance Superintendent, has faced this continuing problem for 20 years. That is, until he tested the SolargizerTM Battery Maintenance System three years ago. The target test vehicle was a runway snow blower with an 8D battery that had to be replaced in the fall every year.
In Dallas, snow blowers arent used very often and a typical Texas summer can really drain the life out of a battery. The test was a simple one: Take a load and no-load reading on the battery, attach the Solargizer, park the blower and dont start it for eight months. No one expected any changes based on past history. Every battery maintenance product tested at D/FW Airport prior to Solargizer had failed.
"To our utter amazement, the blower started instantly eight months later," states Frank. "In fact, under the load/no-load test, the battery was actually even better after sitting all those months." The results were too good to be true, so there was only one thing to do: Buy Solargizers and do the same test on a much larger number of vehicles. The vehicles picked out for this evaluation were a fleet of infrequently used sanding trucks. All 14 trucks had Solargizers mounted outside on the grills or inside on the dashes. They were then parked under an open shed and left untouched for 10 months. "We were curious to see if the Solargizers would work equally well in both locations," says Frank. "We parked them facing south to catch the sun."
Once again, even after sitting unused for months, all the trucks started and the batteries had actually improved over the test period. "Solargizer has done exactly what the manufacturer claims and has solved a huge problem for us," declares Frank. "They paid for themselves in less than a year in just battery costs alone." Due to the multiple successes and continuing battery reliability, maintenance personnel are now mounting Solargizers on any vehicle that has a history of battery problems. With a new maintenance facility close to completion that will include a battery shop, two other pulse technology products will be part of the operation to keep batteries sulfate free. With battery maintenance costs and the associated wasted man hours being reduced, other vehicle maintenance programs can move up the priority list.
"Having Solargizer is like having free energy," concludes Frank. "Solargizer has proven to be as reliable as the sun."
Addendum:
One piece of equipment at D/FWAirport has had a 12-Volt Solargizer on it for seven years now. And to date (June 11, 1998) they have never had to replace the battery, even though the equipment sits for months at a time. According to Frank, prior to using Solargizer they had to replace the battery every year.
