Clement Auto & Truck Races For New Markets
Virtually millions of vehicles are moving across the face of the earth, from cars and boats to over-the-road trucks and heavy equipment of every kind. Every one of them uses a lead-acid-battery in some configuration. And everyone who operates them is a potential user of a Solargizer or other pulse technology battery maintenance system from PulseTech.

As the owner of Clement Auto & Truck dealerships in Iowa and South Dakota, Larry Clement recognizes this huge potential. That’s why he added Solargizer and other PulseTech products to his extensive product line. Larry has been selling cars, trucks and other vehicles for 26 years. He has seven dealerships in all, including two for Mack trucks, two General Motors and three for Featherlite trailers.

What he likes about selling PulseTech products is it helps him move into other markets as well. Besides being ideal for his trucks and cars, they are also tailor-made for farming and construction equipment as well as other arenas he is trying to reach. "I’ve been selling vehicles and accessories for a long time," said Larry, "and PulseTech’s battery maintenance systems is very exciting.

From a customer side, they offer benefits almost unheard of in the battery industry. For my dealerships, they offer a potential increase in overall sales and a reduction in expenses very few products can offer. Not just in selling to immediate customers, but, because they work on anything with a battery, it opens up a whole world of new markets for us." Ed Schumack, a veteran parts manager, has accepted the position of PulseTech/ Solargizer general sales manager for the Clement group. He has already started a series of marketing campaigns to introduce PulseTech products to existing and potential customers. As part of one campaign, Ed recently sent a direct mail package to local construction companies that shut down during the winter due to severe weather. "These people are the perfect candidates for a pulse technology battery maintenance system, because sulfation buildup affects idle and stored vehicles the most, especially in severe winter weather," explains Larry. "Since Solargizer helps offset the normal loss of battery power on stored vehicles, my customers can expect them to start whenever they need them. Maintaining a full charge on batteries will also keep them from freezing."

Besides direct mail, Larry uses a wide variety of ways to market his vehicles. His biggest -and favorite- marketing tool is his racing team. The Clement Racing team has been racing cars since 1985, including the NASCAR circuit. In 1993, he began competing mainly in ARCA (Automobile Racing Club of America) races. "My racing team is a fantastic way to reach potential customers," states Larry. "After all, race fans use almost every type of vehicle imaginable, from cars, boats and RV, to over-the-road trucks and heavy equipment. And PulseTech has a battery maintenance system for all of them."

Larry’s driver for Clement Racing is Frank Kimmel. Frank is currently second in national points. Prior to that he sat at first for 10 straight weeks. He has broken track records six times and sat at the pole 15 times with several wins. PulseTech sponsored Larry’s racing team in several races, including in Talladega on October 11. PulseTech was also the major sponsor during the Syracuse GP-Mountain Dew 400k at the Pocono International Raceway on June 15, 1996, and a supporting sponsor during most of the remaining races in the ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde Supercar.

"We became involved in ARCA because a lot of our potential customers are huge race fans," states Scott Schilling, national sales and marketing manager for PulseTech. "And working with an exceptional team like Clement Racing has helped us reach a lot of them." In just the short time Larry has been selling PulseTech products, sales response has been incredible. He predicts this will continue to grow every month, because as vehicle demand gets stronger, so will the need for parts and service, -and the need for Solargizer and other PulseTech battery maintenance systems.
