During the past year the centrifugal precleaner market has had a new innovation introduced, the plastic centrifugal precleaner. Many of our customers have asked us how these new products stack up to the CENTRI ® Air Precleaner. We have just completed some independent testing, and results are in, CENTRI ® has less restriction and is an overall better value!

In today's environment, one of the most important factors to consider when adding a precleaner to the air intake system is the units added restriction. This is true whether you are an end-user or an OEM looking to improve your equipment's performance. We already know that CENTRI ® has a lower restriction rate than most metal units on the market today. Therefore, we wanted to know how CENTRI ® compared to these new plastic precleaners.

The plastic units we tested were from two manufacturers, Sy-Klone ® and Enginaire. We tested the Sy-Klone ® 9001 (4 inch) and 9003 (8 inch) models. It should be noted that the Caterpillar Company also markets Sy-Klone ® units as the CAT TM Turbine Precleaner. The Enginaire 2 20/150 (2 inch) and 4 150-465 were also selected for testing.

These test were conducted using the SAE J726 test code to provide a uniform means for evaluating the performance characteristics of air cleaner systems. Overall the results showed that the plastic units from Sy-Klone ® /CAT TM and Enginaire had increased restriction levels up to 155+% higher than the CENTRI ® Air Precleaner.

What does this information mean? It means in every application the CENTRI ® Air Precleaner will consistently pull less restriction, and provide longer filter life than the "new technology" plastic/nylon precleaners from Sy-Klone ® /CAT TM and Enginaire.
